Therapeutic Approach
My clients can often make a lot more sense of the approach I use by experiencing it rather than thinking about it. I have provided a short summary here of the different methods I integrate in my work.
Internal Family Systems
I use IFS to help you explore and transform your own “inner system”. Most people’s inner world is a jumble of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. IFS allows you to find the calm in the middle of that storm (“Self”) and from that vantage point love and transform parts of yourself that might be wounded or in extreme roles. This can change this jumbled-up inner world into a place of inner peace and clarity.
Typically we focus on an area of your life where you would like to have a breakthrough. It might be a relationship, career, or personal happiness. We then explore the issue from an inner-parts perspective. I’ll help you understand the system of inner parts that are at play. I’ll then guide you through an established process of getting to know and transforming these parts of yourself.
Psychodynamic Approaches
Psychodynamic approaches focus on the critical role of early attachment experiences and their contribution to emotional, social and behavioural challenges later in life. I help clients explore these early experiences. I also place a good deal of emphasis on the quality of the relationship I form with my clients. While offering compassion, curiosity and connection, I maintain clear and professional boundaries that enable clients to build trust and ease.
Coaching
Coaching typically involves eliciting, clarifying, and prioritizing goals. Clients and I work collaboratively to identify their strengths and leverage them in working towards goals. The coaching process often involves providing tools, resources, and strategies in support of client development. I am consistently reminded that coaching is in essence, a recognition of the fundamental capacities of each client. As a coach, I empower, motivate, and celebrate clients with my authentic presence and guidance.
